These are the Drop/Sennheiser HD 6xx Open-Back wired Headphones, a collaboration between Massdrop & Sennheiser, it is basically a Sennheiser HD650 with some minor tweaks but at much lower price tag ($219 RSP), it is a really a great Headphone for those looking to get into the world of high-end audio.
About the packaging they come in a sturdy case with foam inside to keep the cans safe. Along with the headphones one basic SE cable with the typical Sennheiser two-pin connector ending in a 3.5mm connector, a 6.35mm adapter is provided, that’s it, the quality of the cable is very nice though. The headphones themselves feel very plasticky & cheap but having experiences with Sennheiser headphones in the past they can last for a very very long time. The velour stock pads are phantastic they fit very well and feel very comfortable over long listening sessions.
What really makes these headphones stand out is the sound quality they provide at a low budget. The Sound is very detailed and neutral, vocals are phantastic, the bass is a bit thin but it can be improved with EQ. A dedicated amp is needed to get the maximum out of these cans. I mainly listened to these using the Ifi Zen Can Signature 6xx Edition (BAL 4.4 cable & Stock Cable) & the Xduuo MT604 (BAL XLR cable), to my surprise they sounded best with the MT604, the hybrid tube amp added some air to the overall performance. The combination with the Ifi Zen Can was good, it added more bass especially with the 6xx Eq setting turned on, but to my ears it could not achieve that magical performance when connected to the Xduuo. Sound performance with a portable player like the Hiby R5 II & the Fosi DS1 dongle was good too.
Final Word:
Great Sound performance without breaking the bank, built could be better but still very comfy due to the velour pads, these cans are not for bass heads, a dedicated headphone amp is required as they need some juice to perform well.
