Aful Performer 5+2 In-Ears
The Aful Performer 5+2 is a wired Tribrid IEM with a combination of 7 drivers (2DD+4BA+1Micro Planar)
It can be ordered with two different cable terminations 3.5 single ended or 4.4 balanced
The Perfomer 5+2 is a mid-tier IEM from the brand Aful retailing at around 240€ in Europe. The Unboxing experience is
quiet nice, they come in a fairly big box for an IEM, but the Earphones and accessories are nicely presented to you.
The cable that comes in the package is great for this price range, it's nice to the touch, it doesn't tangle that
easily and doesn't produce any microphonics. The amount and quality of the tips provided is quiet nice too and finally
the round "hockey puck" like case rounds up the complete package.
The Iems themselves are gorgeous too look at with those nicely designed green blueish faceplates and they are really
lightweight. Despite housing 7 drivers inside, the shell remains relatively compact and should not cause any discomfort
for most ears. In fact these Iems are very comfortable, i could wear them all day long without any issues.
The Performer 5+2 can be labeled as a neutral IEM with a tasty boost in the bass, the midrange is mostly linear and treble
is slightly elevated and energetic but without any tendency to harshness or listening fatigue. On the technical side
there's nothing to complain these Iems resolve very well, the soundstage and imaging is excellent and the bass although
elevated is very clean and textured. Altogether a really nice tuning that i really like.
There are quite a lot of IEMS in the 150 to 250 Euro price range so there is a lot of competition. The first comparison
is a single driver planar IEM from Hidizs the MP145 a great set priced at around 170 Euro so cheaper than the Performer 5+2
the soundstage is wider on the 145 compared to the 5+2, the bass is quicker and has more slam but sounds noticeably thinner
than the performer, when there is a lot going on in the track the performer sounds more composed than the 145, overall
the 5+2 is the better performer in my opinion. The next comparison is against another Hidizs IEM the Mk12 Turris a single
DD equipped set priced around 210 Euro. A much closer call awaits as technically both IEM perform on a same level,
the MK12 bass is as impressive, resolving and staging capabilities are on the same level, the main difference lies in the
treble both quiet energetic in the treble but on the Mk12 there can be some slight sharpness and peakiness in the treble with
some tracks which doesn't seem to happen on the Performer 5+2. Finally last comparison with the more expensive Softears
Volume S priced at 320 Euros, the Volume S has a slightly warmer sound signature, better bass impact and it is less energetic
than P5+2, overall the Volume S is smoother but the P5+2 is slightly more detailed & clearer sounding. It's very hard to determine
a clear winner here i guess it comes down to personal preference.
Last Word:
The Aful Perfomer 5+2 is fantastic IEM in it's price range. It's a great allrounder, it has good technicalities without
sacrificing any of the fun & engaging sound presentation. Not to forget the great packaging and nice quality accessories
it comes with. Well done Aful!
