These are the Mark Levinson N°5909 premium high-res wireless closed-back ANC Headphones, the package is also very premium so are all the accessories included. You get a nice black sturdy transport case, one 1.25m USB-C to USB-C Charging Cable, one 1.25m USB-C to 3.5mm Proprietary Audio Cable and a 4m USB-C to 3.5mm Proprietary Audio Cable for desktop use, the adapters provided are one 3.5mm to 6.3mm Adapter, one USB-C to USB-A Adapter and an airplane adapter so basically all you need for charging and to connect to a source when not using them wirelessly. The asking price of 999€ is very steep and much higher than most of the competitors out there. (The 5909 can also be used for answering phone calls they have Mic built-in but i skip that part and focus on pure audio playback)

On the technical side, the 40mm drivers inside are Beryllium coated, as for the supported codecs you get LDAC, AAC & APT-X with BT 5.1 and the resolution can go up to 24bit/96khz. The headphones are very comfortable even for long listening sessions, they feel very light, fit and seal very well at least for me, the leather pads isolate very well to the inside and also to the outside, at least i never got any complains from other people sitting next to me in the office even at nearly max-t out listing levels.

I use these headphones almost on a daily basis for over a year now when travelling and in the office, i’m still more than satisfied with the listening experience they deliver, although i must admit at first i wasn’t a huge bluetooth fan at all and i tried a lot of BT-headphones from various brands before and they never impressed me to a point where i would have considered purchasing one or keeping them for a longer period.

Concerning the battery life the claimed 34hrs & 30hrs (with ANC) are realistic, i still get close to those numbers after a year of use. In my used case i have the ANC mode turned off for most of the time as i feel that the passive isolation is good enough except when travelling by airplane.

There is also a free, basic App you can use on IOS/Android devices nothing too fancy here, you can update the firmware, cycle between the different ANC modes and you can adjust the bass contour. I guess that for some people out there it would have been great if they would have added full EQ adjustments. Also something to mention here is that i have issues with the on-head detection, when enabled the headphones will stop working eventually even though the headphones are still on my head so i’m not sure if this is just me or if it is a general issue (updating to the newest firmware didn’t solve the issue).

Pro’s and Con’s:

-Very good sounding Headphones wired or wireless, in my opinion one of the 3 best wireless headphones on the market to date, where the main competitors are the pricier T+A Solitaire T & the cheaper Focal Bathys.(excluding from the equation the very, very expensive Audio-Technica ATH-WB2022 limited Edition which i have never seen or tried)

-Premium look and feel, very comfy and lightweight, good ANC, no dropouts & very good range with BT, can be used in passive mode for even potentially better sound quality or when battery run’s out of power, nice travel case & very good quality accessories.

-On the negative side there is not much to complain about except the price tag, the missing EQ within the App & the malfunction when enabling the head-on detection (maybe just with my unit).

Final Word:

The ML 5909 are a great BT headphones, a bit pricey yes but i would recommend them to anyone if the budget allows it.
