Wiim Pro

This is the Wiim Pro, a Streamer, D/A Converter and Pre-Amplifier very compact and lightweight plastic unit. This entry level streamer sells for around 180€ in Europe.  Inside the box you will find the unit itself, a USB Power Adapter, a USB Type-C Cable, a RCA to RCA stereo cable, a Digital Optical Audio Toslink Cable  & a  User Guide.

A remote control is not included but can be acquired optionally. Anyway the Wiim Pro is designed to be controlled via an IOS/Android app. The Wiim Home App can be downloaded for free in the respective App stores. The App itself is the star of the show,  it is easy to use, gives a lot of options, is very stable & updated regularly.

The Setup of the unit was quiet easy and done within minutes.

On the front panel there are some basic illuminated control options, Play, Pause & Volume Control.

As for connections on the back you can find Line in and out single ended RCA connectors, a USB Power connector, Mic, SPDIF In and Out, Coax Out, Trigger Out and LAN connector. Both WLAN and BT connection are also available with supporting protocols AirPlay 2, Chromecast Audio, DLNA, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Amazon Music Casting.

Major streaming platforms are also supported like Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer, Tunein, Tidal, Qobuz, SoundCloud etc. and the Wiim Pro is ROON certified and can be used as a Roon Endpoint.

The Dac chip inside the Wiim Pro is an AKM 4493SEQ which supports sampling rates up to 192 khz 24-bit.

I used the Wiim pro for a few months in both office and speaker setup and i can say that it performed very well in both used cases. I had it

connected in a low budget setup to an Aiyima A07 Max Class D Amplifier and a pair of Dali Spektor 1's and the performance was great in a smaller sized room.

Same goes for headphone amps and headphones the sound was very clean perhaps not the most revealing but very enjoyable. A good thing here

is that you can bypass the internal Dac and upgrade the sound quality with an external Dac which is fantastic.

Conclusion:

The Wiim Pro is an absolute bargain and a great starting point for beginners, it is very user friendly, has a great app, compact size and sounds already reasonably well considering the asking price and can be upgraded with an external DAC to further increase sound performance.
